Question

Is there a work-around for the NO STANDBY mode issue on the Surfboard Cable Modems?

Answer

NO STANDBY Mode on the Surfboard Cable Modems

To determine if the Standby Mode has been disabled by the MSO, there is a work-around that can be used .

NOTE:  This work-around will only work on SB5100 & 5101 Cable Modems.  It will NOT work on SB5120 no matter what firmware version  is loaded on the unit.

1. Open the GUI interface of the modem.

2. From the main screen find the CONFIGURATION tab.

3. In the Configuration screen, select RESET FACTORY DEFAULTS.

4. Depress the Standby button,  Standby Mode should now work!

Disclaimer:  The Standby Disable mode will be reconfigured with either a hard-reset / power cycle or a auto-configuration load initiated by the MSO.
