Question
How do I reserve an IP address to a client in my SBG6580-2?
Answer
In certain cases, it is best for a client to receive a particular IP address from the SBG6580-2 and always keep that address without having to manually configure it in the client.  This can be accomplished by reserving an IP Address to a client's MAC address.   When the client disconnects and reconnects to the SBG6580-2, it will receive the IP address that has been reserved for it.

It is recommended to setup an IP Address Reserve for clients that are configured to use Port Forwarding or DMZ.  The IP Address reserve can be setup using the assigned IP address to the client or by using a custom IP address of choice.  When using a custom IP address the client under the Client list must be deleted first.  This document contains the following sections:

IP Address Reserve Setup
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.
     
  2. On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field.
     
  3. Enter type password in the Password field.
     
  4. Click the Login button.  The Home page will appear.

  5. Move the mouse-cursor over Basic on the main menu and click the DHCP link on the sub-menu.  The Basic - DHCP page will appear.

  6. On the Basic - DHCP page, locate and copy the device's MAC Address, IP Address, and Host Name under the Client List section to reserve the IP Address.

  7. Under the Reserve IP Address section, enter the copied MAC Address into the MAC Address field.
     
  8. Enter the copied IP Address into the IP Address field.
     
  9. Enter the copied Host Name into the Host Name field.
     
  10. Click the Apply button.

  11. Verify that the client is added to the Client List to confirm that the setup is complete.

  12. To remove the IP Address reservation, click the radio button to select the client under Client List and then click the Delete button.

Custom IP Address Reserve Setup
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.
     
  2. On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field.
     
  3. Enter password in the Password field.
     
  4. Click the Login button.  The Home page will appear.

  5. Move the mouse-cursor over Basic on the main menu and click the DHCP link on the sub-menu.  The Basic - DHCP page will appear.

  6. On the Basic DHCP page, locate and copy the device's MAC Address under the Client List section to reserve the IP Address.
     
  7. Click the radio Select button for the device.
     
  8. Click the Delete button to remove the device from the DHCP pool.

  9. Under the Reserve IP Address section, enter the copied MAC Address into the MAC Address field.
     
  10. Enter the desired IP Address of choice into the IP Address field.

    NOTE: In this example 192.168.0.100 IP Address was used.
     
  11. Enter the desired Host Name into the Host Name field.
     
  12. Click the Apply button.

  14. To remove the IP Address reservation, click the radio button to select the client under Client List and then click the Delete button.
