Question
How do I backup and restore the configuration settings in my SBG6580? 
Answer

The Backup and Restore feature in the SURFboard SBG6580 allows users to save and restore the configuration settings locally on a computer.  This document contains the following sections:

  • To back up the SBG6580 configurations.
  • To restore the SBG6580 configurations.


To Backup the SBG6580 Configuration

CAUTION: It is highly recommended to perform backup configuration with the SBG6580's default login username and password.
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page appears.

    NOTE: By default the LAN IP address is 192.168.0.1.  If the default address has been changed, enter the custom address in the address box.
     
  2. On the Login page:
    a.   Enter admin in the Username field.
    b.   Enter motorola in the Password field.
    c.   Click the Login button.  The Home page appears.

    NOTE: On firmware version 8.9.0.4 and later, the default admin password is required to be changed.  The Change User Password prompt will immediately appear after logging into the Web manager with the default admin password.  For assistance with the Change User Password screen, please refer to article # 18055 - SBG6580 (v.8.9.x): Prompt to Change Default Admin Login.

  3. Move the mouse-cursor over the Basic tab and select the Backup and Restore sub-link.  The Basic - Backup and Restore page appears.
  4. On the Basic - Backup and Restore page click the Backup button.

  5. Click the OK button on Select 'Save' when prompted. dialog box.
  6. Click the Save button on File Download dialog box.  The Save As window appears.
  7. On the Save As window,
    a.   Save in - Select Desktop in the pull-down menu.
    b.   File name - Leave at default name GatewaySettings.bin.
    c.   Save as type - Leave at default type, .bin Document.
    d.   Click the Save button.
    e.   Click the Close button.

To Restore the SBG6580 Configuration

  4. On the Basic - Backup and Restore Settings page, click the Browse... button.  The system window appears.
  5. On the system window:
    a.   Select Desktop.
    b.   Select the GatewaySettings.bin file.
    c.   Click the Open button.

  6. Click the Restore button.
