With a closed network, the wireless network (SSID) will not broadcast. Users are required to type the SSID into the client application, instead of selecting the SSID from the wireless network available list. By default, the SSID is set to broadcast and it can be detected by the wireless clients. This document describes how to disable the 2.4 GHz and/or 5 GHz wireless network (SSID) from broadcasting.
CAUTION: In order to configure the SBG6782 to not broadcast the wireless network (SSID), the Automatic Security Configuration (WPS) feature must be disabled.
To Configure Closed System Network
- Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari. Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key. The Login page appears.
NOTE: By default the LAN IP address is 192.168.0.1. If the default address has been changed, enter the custom address in the address box.
- On the Login page:
a. Enter admin in the Username field.
b. Enter motorola in the Password field.
c. Click the Login button. The Home page appears.
- On the Home page, click on Manage Wi-Fi Network. The Wireless - Primary Network Settings page appears.
- On the Wireless - Primary Network Settings page:
a. Select the desired frequency tab to modify (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz).
NOTE 1: Choosing the Wireless Interface only determines which frequency settings are desired to be modified. The 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz frequencies are already enabled simultaneously by default.
NOTE 2: The 2.4 GHz frequency supports 802.11 b/g/n wireless clients, while the 5.0 GHz frequency supports 802.11n wireless clients only. 802.11n devices will generally perform better in the 5GHz range.
NOTE 3: In this example, the 2.4 GHz frequency has been selected to modify.
b. Network Name (SSID) Broadcast - Click the drop-down tab and select Disable.
c. The message box appears "Disabling the SSID Broadcast will disable WPS. Do you want to continue?", click the Ok button.
d. Click the Apply button.
NOTE: The settings will take effect immediately. Restarting the gateway is not required. Be sure to copy down the Network Name (SSID).
The SBG6782 is now configured in a closed system network. The SSID will not broadcast. Please refer to the wireless vendor for assistance with manually configuring a wireless client.
