Question
How do I setup my SBG7580-AC not to broadcast a wireless network?
Answer
With a closed network, the SBG7580-AC Wi-Fi network (SSID) will not broadcast.  Users are required to type the SSID into the client application, instead of selecting the SSID from the wireless network available list.  By default, the Wi-Fi network name is set to broadcast and it can be detected by the wireless clients.  This document describes how to hide the Wi-Fi network name from broadcasting.

CAUTION: In order to configure the SBG7580-AC to not broadcast a wireless network (SSID), the WPS (Wireless Protected Setup) feature must be disabled.

To Hide the Wi-Fi Network Name

  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.

NOTE: A security or private risk alert may appear on the web browser advising users to proceed with caution when accessing the Web Manager. There is no risk in proceeding to the Web Manager. For instructions to by-pass the alert screen, refer to article # 18181 - Alert Message for Web Manager Access.
