Question
How do I block access to a specific service or application in my SVG2482AC Gateway?
Answer
The SVG2482AC Parental Control feature provides the ability to block outbound access to specific Internet services or applications using ports.  These services or applications are blocked on all devices connected to the home network during a specified time of day.  Blocked access can be removed for a particular device, by selecting Yes under Trusted Computers. 

By default, Parental Control is disabled with no restrictions, which allows Internet access to all of the devices at all times.  This document describes how to block devices from accessing a specific service on the Internet and how to remove the blocked access. 

This document contains the following sections:


Block Service or Application Access
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://10.0.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.
     
  2. On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field.
     
  3. Enter password in the Password field then click the Login button.  The Gateway > At a Glance page will appear.

    NOTE:  A prompt to change the password appears when the SVG2482AC is using the default password.  To change the password click the OK button or click the Cancel button to bypass it.​

  4. On the left-hand menu, click the Parental Control link.  The Parental Control > Managed Sites page will appear.
     
  5. Click the Managed Services sub-link.  The Parental Control > Managed Services page will appear.
     
  6. Click Enable to enable the Managed Services.

  7. Click the +Add button for Blocked Services.  The Parental Control > Managed Sites > Add Blocked Services page will appear.

  8. On the Parental Control > Managed Services > Add Blocked Services page, enter the name of the service or application in the User Defined Service field.

    NOTE: In this example, service on Port 80 is blocked from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Sunday.
     
  9. Click on the Protocol drop-down menu, and select TCP/UDP.
     
  10. Enter the port number that is associated with the service or application to restrict in the Start Port field.
     
  11. Enter the same port number to restrict in the End Port field.

    NOTE:  If it is desired to block a range of ports, then enter the first port of the range for Start Port, and the last port of the range for End Port.

     
  12. Click the No button for the Always Block? option to set the desired time.  To always block, leave at default Yes and proceed to step 16.
     
  13. Click on the Start from drop-down menus to select the start time to restrict.
     
  14. Click on the End on drop-down menus to select the end time to restrict.
     
  15. Select the desired days for the Set Blocked Days option.
     
  16. Click the Save button.  The Parental Control > Managed Services page will appear. 
     
  17. The blocked services entry will appear below the Blocked Services section.  To add additional services or applications to be blocked, repeat steps 7 - 16. 

    NOTE:  If it is desired to have a client device bypass the restrictions, in the Trusted Computers section, click the Yes button for the client device where the restrictions will not apply.

  18. Close all web browsers that are open on the devices, and then reopen them for the settings to take effect. 

Remove Block Service or Application Access
  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://10.0.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page will appear.
     
  2. On the Login page, enter admin in the Username field.
     
  3. Enter password in the Password field then click the Login button.  The Gateway > At a Glance page will appear.

    NOTE:  A prompt to change the password appears when the SVG2482AC is using the default password.  To change the password click the OK button or click the Cancel button to bypass it.​

  4. On the left-hand menu, click the Parental Control link.  The Parental Control > Managed Sites page will appear.
     
  5. Click the Managed Services sub-link.  The Parental Control > Managed Services page will appear.
     
  6. Click the X button next to the Blocked Services to remove.  A pop-up message box will appear.

  7. On the pop-up message box, click the OK button.  The Parental Control > Managed Services page will appear.

    Right click on the image to save it to your computer.

     
  8. The blocked service is now removed.

    NOTE:  To turn off all blocked services, click Disable on the Managed Services: option.
