Question
How do I configure the firewall in the TG862?
Answer

The TG862 Firewall has various settings related to blocking or exclusively allowing different types of data through the Gateway from the WAN to the LAN.  Even if specific web content is allowed on the computer level, it can be blocked on the router / gateway level using the firewall options.  By default, the Firewall is Enabled.  This document describes how to configure the TG862 to filter specific types of web content.

For special requirements or circumstances, a variety of additional blocking characteristics are offered:

  • Firewall - The TG862 basic firewall.
  • DoS Attack Protection Firewall - Protects against DoS (Denial of Service) attacks.
  • Ping Blocking - Blocks any ping requests sent to the TG862 from the Internet.
  • IPsec Pass Through - Allows an IPsec VPN client that is connected to the TG862 to connect to a remote IPsec VPN connection.
  • PPTP Pass Through - Allows an PPTP VPN client that is connected to the TG862 to connect to a remote PPTP VPN connection.
  • L2TP Pass Through - Allows an L2TP VPN client that is connected to the TG862 to connect to a remote L2TP VPN connection.
  • Block Fragmented IP Packets - Prevents all fragmented IP Packets from passing through the firewall.
