Question
How do I reserve an IP address in the TG862?
Answer
In certain scenarios, it may be desired to have a client receive a particular IP address from the TG862, and always keep that address without having to manually configure a static IP address in the client.  This can be accomplished with the Fixed DHCP Clients feature in the TG862.  The TG862 can be configured to reserve a specific IP address within the DHCP range of addresses for a specific client.  When the client connects to the TG862, it will receive the IP address automatically that it has been reserved for.

NOTE: This option serves as a great solution for devices that are configured to use the Port Forwarding or DMZ options in the TG862.

Requirements
  • MAC address of the device (e.g. computer, gaming console).

By default, no IP addresses are reserved in the TG862.  This document describes how to reserve and unreserve an IP address for a particular client. 

Reserving an IP Address

  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page appears.

    NOTE: By default the LAN IP address is 192.168.0.1.  If the default address has been changed, enter the custom address in the address box.
     
  2. On the Login page:
    a.   Enter admin in the Username field.
    b.   Enter password in the Password field.
    c.   Click the Login button.  The System Basic Setup page appears.

  3. On the top menu, click the LAN Setup tab.  The LAN Settings page appears.
  4. On the left-hand menu, click DHCP.   The DHCP Clients page appears.
  5. On the DHCP Clients page, click the Add button.  The Add Fixed DHCP Client window appears.

  6. On the Add Fixed DHCP Client window:
    a.    IP Address - Enter the desired IP address for the computer. 

           NOTE: The IP Address must be within the DHCP range of the LAN network.

    b.    Mac Address - Enter the MAC Address of the LAN device (e.g. computer, gaming console).
    c.    Click the Add Client button.  The following message will now appear: DHCP Service is restarting.  Please wait.

    d.    Wait for up to 1 minute for the DHCP Service to restart.  Once it is done restarting, the DHCP Clients page will reappear.
    e.   Verify that the entry is displayed in the Fixed DHCP Clients list, as shown below.

Unreserving an IP Address

  1. Launch a web browser, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari.  Enter http://192.168.0.1 into the address box, and press the Enter key.  The Login page appears.

  2. On the Login page:
    a.   Enter admin in the Username field.
    b.   Enter password in the Password field.
    c.   Click the Login button.  The System Basic Setup page appears.

  3. On the top menu, click on LAN Setup.  The LAN Settings page appears.
  4. On the left-hand menu, click DHCP.   The DHCP Clients page appears.
  5. On the DHCP Clients page, in the Fixed DHCP Clients section:
    a.  Locate the desired listing to unreserve, and uncheck the checkbox.
    b.  Click the Delete button.

    NOTE: A reboot of the unit is not required for changes to take effect.
