UPnPâ„¢ (Universal Plug and Play) is a set of protocols that allows a device to automatically discover other UPnP devices (anything from an Internet gateway device to a light switch), for communication, entertainment, and sharing data.  UPnP-enabled devices (such as PCs or gaming consoles) can retrieve the router's WAN IP address, and automatically create NAT port maps. This is an ideal setup for applications or services that requires UPnP. By default, UPnP is enabled to allow communication for UPnP-enabled devices in the home network. This document describes how to disable UPnP in the mAX Router.NOTE: With UPnP enabled, a virus, Trojan horse, worm, or other malicious programs that manages to infect a computer/device on the local area network could bypass the firewall completely. Since UPnP assumes local programs are trustworthy and allows them to forward ports. It is recommended to manually configure port forwarding in the mAX router, and disable UPnP to avoid the security vulnerabilities associated with this protocol. For assistance with port forwarding, refer to article # 18237 - mAX Router: Port Forwarding Setup.  Disable UPnPÂ
- Tap the My Network icon at the bottom of the screen.
 - Tap the Network Management box.
 - Tap the Network Settings + button to expand the card, then tap the General Setting link.
 - Swipe the UPnP slider to the left to disable UPnP.Â
NOTE: UPnP is enabled by default in the Network Settings.
